Foggy disposition

A week ago, the fog has reached its peak one day - going from the suburbs back to Zagreb was almost like playing a game find that car and stop light. This was one stop light with a slightly better visibility:

Cold humid mornings near the Sava river end up looking like this - frost everywhere, fogginess worsens the feeling of cold, and makes great out-of-focus photo-ops! :)

Fog series: all alone

My weekend early morning runs (OK, not THAT early, this was taken at 7:49AM) nowadays looks like this... it's just me, the road, and my music. What a way to physically and psychologically recover!

Find the ducks!

How many of you can spot the ducks on the lake - yes, there really is a lake right in front, in the pea-soup-fog? Hint: there are only two, the rest are probably dirt spots on your computer screen :)

Finally, real winter is showing its presence. Temperatures have finally dropped from 15-20C to around freezing point. Omnipresent fog lasting until noon or longer doesn't allow us to enjoy otherwise cloudless days. Trees barely show their eerie presence through fog:

Pea soup?

Remember that image I posted for December theme day? Well, this one is looking towards the lake at the identical angle (just not as zoomed in):



I've always wondered why would anyone give the funny phrase, "pea soup", to thick fog, but this photo explains it all.

There's always an enthusiast who'd jog no matter what. Morning was foggy, cold, and yet........

Misty river?

I took the opportunity of sunny but cold (below freezing) morning to go on a small photo shoot session around the newer part of Zagreb.

Along its length, Zagreb is divided into 2 parts by the river Sava. The river is relatively shallow and relatively narrow so the transport over the river hasn't developed and is focused on bridges.

Whenever the temperatures in the morning drop below zero, because the temperature of the river is close to 20C, there's quite a lot of "steam" rising from it. Also, the strip along the river is usually quite foggy, unlike the rest of Zagreb. This image was taken from the "middle" bridge. In the distance there should be one more bridge visible, but the fog completely covered it.



Also, you can see a large area next to the river - it's a part of the flood prevention system which includes the levvies on each side of the river as well as a few large canals in the event of high water levels.
