Ribs
Ready for New Year's celebration? Or have you already entered 2010? :) Pork and "french salad" (the French I know have never seen or tasted this salad so I don't know where the name comes from) is the typical New Year's Eve meal in Croatia. Following pork tradition, the photo of Arena and its rib-shaped architecture seems to be appropriate:

This is really interesting. I come from Greece, where pork is the traditional Xmas (and new year) meat. We also have a similar salad that is a popular new year's eve dish, only we call it "Russian salad".
ReplyDeleteOK, I couldn't resist - I looked it up on Wikipedia. Apparently, Russian salad (Русский салат) is a Russian and Ukranian dish also popular in the Balkans. It was invented in the 1860s by the *French* chef Lucien Olivier, who worked in one of Moscow's most celebrated restaurants.
