Ripe figs and a sparrow feasting

Another old one, taken this summer at our holiday house. We have several large fig trees with so much fruit we usually end up feeding all our neighbors, birds and ourselves. This little guy was certainly enjoying mouthful of the perfectly ripe fig:

  1. I have only discovered fresh figs in the last three years and cannot get enough of them although in Australia they are currently $2.50 each!!

I love the palette of this photograph.

  2. What a super photo! I haven't eaten a fig in years! Can't even remember what they taste like...seedy, I think.

  3. Smokve!! Sadly, most Americans have not had the opportunity to acquire a taste for this luscious fruit.

  4. I was surprised to find out that among tons of different and exotic fruit I couldn't get fresh figs when I lived in the US. I can't figure out a reason why, because it's one type of tree that doesn't require any special care, just a lot of sun and some water in the driest months. I got all of my US friends hooked on them while they were visiting me in Croatia :).
