As Cristobal noticed in the previous photo, the south side entrance to the St. Marko's church is quite elaborate and unusual:
It's one of the richest Gothic church entrances in Croatia. The church itself dates back to 13th century, but has been renovated several times due to fires, earthquake,... more on church in another post... :)

It's very lovely, indeed.
ReplyDeleteThat's a heavenly entrance indeed! Mr. Santiago was right! Clever Cristobal! Can we take a look inside . . . .
ReplyDeleteA magnificent entrance
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love ornate old churches. Can't wait to hear more about it!
ReplyDelete@ Leif - I have yet to enter the church! Whenever I go there and want to enter it's either closed for some unknown reason or it's being renovated... I think I have to show up right before a weekend mass to snap some photos... it's on my to-do list :)
ReplyDeleteThat's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSometimes, I wish churches would provide a guide to the statues, stained glass windows and other images found in them. Except for the more popular ones, I usually can't tell one saint from the other.
@ Hilda - :))) I agree, as much as I love visiting churches wherever I go because there's something in their old architecture, I'm at a complete loss what I'm looking at until someone tells me. But I do know about this entrance - he figures represent the 12 apostles.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and original entrance!
